When to Book Your Maternity Session and Why Timing Matters - Redlands, CA
One of the most common questions I get from expecting moms is, “When should I book my maternity photos?” It’s such an important part of planning your session, and the timing really does make a difference. As a maternity photographer here in the Inland Empire, I’ve worked with so many moms-to-be over the years, and there’s one sweet spot that tends to work best for almost everyone.
The Ideal Window: 28 to 34 Weeks
The best time to schedule your maternity photos is usually between 28 and 34 weeks pregnant. By this stage, your bump is beautifully rounded and prominent, which makes for those classic maternity portraits everyone loves. You’re far enough along to really showcase your growing belly, but not so far along that you’re feeling overly uncomfortable.
Why This Timing Works So Well
Comfort First
Most moms are past the morning sickness phase by this point, but they haven’t yet reached the heaviness and fatigue that tends to hit closer to the due date. This makes it much easier to enjoy the session without feeling sore or exhausted.
The Perfect Belly Shape
At this stage, your bump has that lovely, full shape that photographs so well. Earlier in pregnancy, it might not be as noticeable, and later on, it can feel harder to move around or try different poses.
Flexibility and Peace of Mind
Booking your session in this window also gives us flexibility in case of reschedules due to weather or unexpected things that pop up. Life happens, and I always want you to feel relaxed knowing there’s wiggle room.
What If You’re Past 34 Weeks?
Every pregnancy is different, and if you’re past 34 weeks and still want photos, don’t worry. I’ve photographed plenty of moms closer to their due dates, and the images are always stunning. Just know that movement may be a little more limited, so we’ll keep things simple, comfortable, and focused on your connection with your baby and family.
Choosing the Right Location
The time of year and the location play a big role in your comfort too. For example, a recent maternity session took place at one of my favorite river spots in the mountains above Yucaipa. Even though it was the middle of summer, the temps were about ten to fifteen degrees cooler than the valley, and the cool mountain water made the whole experience refreshing and relaxed. Whether we shoot in Beaumont, Redlands, Oak Glen, or another Inland Empire location, we’ll always pick a spot that’s beautiful and comfortable for you.
Final Thoughts
Maternity sessions are about celebrating such a special chapter in your life. By planning ahead and booking between 28 and 34 weeks, you’ll not only look and feel your best, but you’ll also have the peace of mind that everything is taken care of. These photos become such treasured keepsakes, and I want the experience of capturing them to feel just as special.
