A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Calimesa

There’s something special about driving down Singleton Road in Calimesa, where old eucalyptus trees sway in the wind and time seems to move just a little slower. Nestled among them sits Stavness Early Learning (SEL Preschool). Two quaint little houses surrounded by gardens, laughter, and the warm hum of childhood discovery. From the moment I arrived, I was reminded why I love photographing places like this. Every corner felt alive with learning, love, and purpose.

The Warmth of Family and Community

As soon as I stepped onto the property, I was greeted with smiles that felt like home. The teachers at SEL Preschool radiate kindness. They’re warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in every child. It’s clear they’ve created more than just a preschool; they’ve built a family. During my tour, I couldn’t help but notice how natural the environment felt. The staff’s calm, nurturing presence creates a safe and joyful atmosphere, where children can explore, create, and thrive.

A Preschool Rooted in Nature

Behind the classrooms lies one of my favorite parts of the school…the garden. Carefully tended by both teachers and students, it’s a beautiful reminder of how hands-on learning can teach so much more than what’s found in a textbook. Beyond the garden sits a play area filled with the kind of simple, timeless play equipment that encourages imagination and movement. And then, of course, there’s the little farm. Chickens, goats, and a pair of friendly barn cats wander about as if they own the place. Overseeing it all is Gracie, the school’s loyal Great Pyrenees. She’s gentle but steadfast, quietly keeping watch over her people and her animals.

Inside the Classrooms

When I stepped inside, I was greeted by one of the school’s adorable cats, a chatty tabby who followed me from room to room, happily soaking up all the attention. The classrooms are cozy and full of character, with a balance of modern touches and vintage charm. Big windows flood the space with natural light, creating a peaceful and inspiring setting for learning. Every shelf, poster, and play area feels intentional with just the right blend of fun and focus. It’s easy to see how much thought and heart has gone into designing a space that truly supports early learning.

A Place with Purpose

This is a preschool built with purpose. One that values connection, curiosity, and care in equal measure. SEL Preschool’s philosophy focuses on helping little ones grow through discovery, problem-solving, and creativity. Every day here feels like a balance of learning and love, and it’s obvious the staff take pride in nurturing both. As I wrapped up my visit, camera in hand and heart full, I couldn’t help but feel grateful that places like this exist in our community. Calimesa is lucky to have a preschool so dedicated to its mission and to the children it serves.

The Heart Behind the School

What makes Stavness Early Learning truly special isn’t just the property or the classrooms. It’s the people behind it. The Stavness family has poured their heart and soul into creating a preschool that feels like home. From the welcoming teachers to the thoughtful learning spaces, you can feel their love and vision in every detail.

It’s clear this isn’t just a school. It’s a family legacy built on care, connection, and community. The Stavness family’s dedication to providing a nurturing environment for local children is something truly inspiring. They’ve created a place where learning happens naturally, where childhood is celebrated, and where every child feels seen, loved, and valued.

I also discovered that Stavness Early Learning doesn’t just serve preschoolers. They’ve expanded into homeschool enrichment too. Their Homestead Homeschool program accepts students from TK through 5th grade and offers supplemental classes aligned with the preschool’s philosophy. Last year, my own child attended farm school and let me tell you, it was a blast! What’s extra cool is they accept charter funds for these enrichment classes, making quality, small-group learning more accessible to homeschool families in the area. So whether your child is in preschool or in the homeschool years, SEL provides a continuum of caring, creative, nature-based education that supports families in multiple stages.

Why I Love Photographing Local Schools and Businesses

As a family photographer serving Calimesa, Yucaipa, and the Inland Empire, I’m always inspired by spaces that celebrate connection and authenticity. Photographing SEL Preschool reminded me just how meaningful it is to document real moments. The laughter, the care, and the everyday beauty that makes a community special is always something worth preserving forever. If you’re a local business, school, or family wanting to tell your story through natural, heartfelt photography, I’d love to chat.
