What to Know Before Spots Fill Up - A Mini Session Booking Guide

Mini sessions tend to book quickly, especially during the busier times of year. One of the biggest reasons families miss out is simply not knowing when those sessions are released. If you’d rather scroll straight to the photos, you can head down below.

Why Mini Sessions Fill So Fast

Mini sessions are offered on specific dates with a limited number of spots. Once those spots are booked, there usually is not an option to add more. Because of that, families who are already paying attention to release timing tend to secure a spot first. This is especially true in the Inland Empire, where fall and holiday sessions are in high demand.

When Mini Sessions Are Typically Released

While every photographer does things a little differently, most mini sessions are announced well before the actual session date. Planning ahead is what gives you the best chance at booking. Here’s a general timeline for when my mini sessions are released throughout the year:

Mother’s Day Minis

Motherhood sessions are usually released in February. These sessions take place in the spring usually during March and April. These are designed to focus on moms and their kids in a simple, relaxed setting.

Back-to-School Minis

Back-to-school sessions are typically announced in June or July. These are shorter sessions that take place in August and are meant to be quick and easy before or right after the new school year begins.

Fall Family Minis

Fall mini sessions are usually released in August. These tend to be the most popular and are often used for holiday cards, which is why they book so quickly. Fall minis take place in the months of September and October.

Christmas Tree Farm Minis

Christmas Tree farm sessions are released in September. These take place in early November only and are very limited due to location availability. These sell out every year and usually go extremely fast once released.

Why Booking Early Matters

Waiting until the season arrives can make it harder to find availability, especially for fall and holiday sessions. By the time many families start thinking about photos, most mini sessions are already full.

Planning ahead allows you to choose a date that works best for your schedule instead of trying to fit into what is left.

How to Make Sure You Don’t Miss Out

The easiest way to stay updated is to keep an eye on announcements on my social media (Facebook and Instagram) and be ready to book when sessions are released. I release all mini session dates to my email subscriber list first. If spots are still available after usually a week, I'll release the remaining spots to the general public via my social media. Because spots are limited, having a general idea of which session you want ahead of time can help you move quickly when booking opens.

Mini sessions are a great option for families looking for a shorter, more focused session, but timing plays a big role in availability. Knowing when they are released makes it much easier to plan ahead and secure a spot.

If you are in Yucaipa and throughout the Inland Empire, staying aware of these timelines can help you avoid the frustration of missing out on the sessions you were hoping for.

If you are thinking about booking a mini session this year, I recommend planning ahead by SUBSCRIBING to my email list here so you can reserve your spot early.

See you soon,
