A Fall Family Session in Redlands with a Pup, a Child, and All the Real-Life Magic - Redlands Family Photographer
Let’s be real, getting your family ready for fall photos can feel like a lot. Between chasing toddlers, figuring out outfits, and maybe even bringing the family dog along, it can be tempting to skip it altogether. But I promise, it doesn’t have to be stressful and the memories you’ll walk away with are so worth it.
This sweet fall session in Redlands, CA was the perfect reminder that chaos and beauty can go hand in hand. With their little pup tagging along and their toddler exploring the trails, we created something really special.
Real Talk: Why Fall Photos Feel Overwhelming for So Many Moms
You’ve got a million tabs open in your brain. Snacks packed, naps pushed, outfits picked and somewhere in there you’re wondering if the dog will cooperate or if your toddler will melt down mid-session. That’s normal. Honestly, most of my clients feel this way. But here’s the good news...sessions don’t have to be “perfect” to be beautiful. In fact, the best photos usually come from just letting go a little.
Easy Wins: How to Prep for a Relaxed, Beautiful Session
Pick Comfortable, Earth or Jewel Toned Outfits
Think neutrals, soft textures, and avoiding anything too busy. This not only looks timeless but photographs beautifully against Redlands' natural fall backdrops.
Closed-Toed Shoes Are Your Friend
Especially for littles, we’ll be walking through natural terrain and keeping those tiny toes protected matters.
Bring the Dog — But Be Smart About It
A thin leash, a favorite toy, and a helper (maybe a grandparent or friend to hold them when they’re not in the shot) makes including your pet feel easy instead of stressful.
Arrive a Few Minutes Early for Final Touches
Brush out the bedhead, wipe any leftover snack off cheeks, and take a breath. Giving yourself 5 to 10 minutes before we start makes a huge difference in how you feel during the shoot.
Why I Love Fall Sessions in Redlands, CA
Redlands is one of my favorite spots to shoot in the Inland Empire, especially in the fall. The light is golden, the trails are peaceful, and when the trees start turning color, it adds the most beautiful warmth to your images. Add in a toddler in boots and a dog with big personality, and you’ve got yourself a storybook session in the making.
You Don’t Need Perfect — You Just Need Present
Here’s what I remind all my clients, especially moms: your kids don’t have to behave perfectly, your dog doesn’t need to sit still the whole time, and you don’t need to stress about every detail. When you show up and just be with your family, I’ll handle the rest. My style leans toward documentary over posed. I’ll guide you and help with natural prompts, but I’m always watching for the in-between moments. The snuggles, the giggles, the way your little one looks up at you...that’s what I want to preserve.
