One of the most common questions I get from seniors and their moms when planning a session is what to wear. It can feel like a lot of pressure, especially when you want your photos to look timeless but still feel like you. This session in Redlands is a good example of how to keep things simple while still having variety. We were shooting in a field of yellow flowers at sunset, which already gives you a really soft, natural backdrop. The goal with outfits in a setting like that is to complement what is already there instead of competing with it.
She brought three outfits, and each one worked for a different reason. Her first look was more casual, with looser fitting jeans, a white flowy tank, and white tennis shoes. This kind of outfit is always a safe starting point because it feels comfortable and easy to move in. It also photographs clean and simple, especially against a busy background like wildflowers or trees. Nothing about it felt overdone, which helped her ease into the session.
Her second outfit shifted things just enough without feeling like a completely different look. She wore a cobalt blue sundress with soft flutter sleeves and paired it with brown cowgirl boots. The color stood out in the field without clashing, and the boots added personality without taking away from the overall feel of the session. It still felt natural, just a little more styled and looked amazing against the trees and yellow flowers.
For her third outfit, she leaned into a more relaxed, boho look with a white tank and a long skirt paired with brown sandals. This worked really well with the wildflower setting and tied everything together. It felt soft, effortless, and in line with the environment we were shooting in.
One thing that made all of her outfits work so well was that they stayed within a similar color palette. Whites, neutrals, and one intentional pop of color kept everything cohesive without looking repetitive. It also helped that everything fit the location. Nothing felt out of place or forced.
For seniors planning photos in Redlands or anywhere in the Inland Empire, the biggest thing to keep in mind is that your outfits do not need to be complicated. A few well-thought-out pieces that feel comfortable and reflect your style will always photograph better than something that feels too styled or unfamiliar. If you are planning a session in a flower field or a similar outdoor location, focus on soft colors, breathable fabrics, and pieces you can move in easily. That combination will give you images that feel natural and still look put together. Take a look below to see all three of her outfits during our photoshoot. Remember, Pinterest is also a good place to pi and save examples of outfits you like.
