Creative Ways to Share Your Decision Through Senior Pictures - Inland Empire Photographer

Senior photos have always been about marking the end of one chapter, but more and more seniors are using them to share what comes next too. College announcement photos have become a fun way to document that decision, especially after months of applications, waiting, and big conversations about the future.

This session in downtown Redlands was a good example of how to do that in a way that still feels personal. He had been accepted into several schools before ultimately deciding on Azusa Pacific University, where he plans to study music. We started in downtown Redlands, which is one of my go-to locations for senior photos because it offers a lot of variety without needing to travel far. The mix of textures, open space, and simple backdrops works well for keeping the focus on the senior while still giving the images some depth. It also gives us flexibility to move around and keep the session feeling natural instead of overly structured.

He brought a few of his instruments with him, which added another layer to the session. This wasn’t just about showing what he plans to study, it was about documenting something he has spent years working on. Incorporating those pieces made the session feel more like a reflection of his day-to-day life instead of something staged just for photos.

When it came time to include the college announcement, we kept it simple. There was no need to overdo it or create something that felt forced. Just a few intentional images that clearly marked his decision to attend APU, while still fitting in with the rest of the session. That balance is what makes these types of sessions work well. You get images that celebrate the future without losing the story of the present.

For seniors and families in Redlands and the surrounding Inland Empire, this is something to think about when planning your session. Senior photos don’t have to be just one thing. They can include the hobbies, interests, and plans that have shaped this stage of life, along with what’s coming next.

If you’re planning your own senior photos and want to include a college announcement, the best approach is to keep it personal. Bring something that represents what you’ve been working toward, whether that’s a school item, a letter, or something connected to your field of study. It does not have to be elaborate to be meaningful.

Senior sessions like this are a chance to capture both the ending and the beginning at the same time. You’re documenting who they are right now, while also marking where they’re headed next. That combination is what makes this stage worth remembering.

If you’re starting to plan senior photos nearby areas like Riverside, Moreno Valley, or Corona, I’d be happy to help you create something that feels true to your story and this season of life. Make the drive and come shoot with me in Redlands! You can reach out to me here to get started.
